YOUR JOURNEY · RESEARCHERS & INVENTORS

Take Your Research to Users and the Market

We help inventors assess readiness, develop the product, form a business team, prepare for production, and find partners.

BEFORE YOU APPLY, PREPARE
A one-page summary of the invention
Test evidence or a prototype
Publication and intellectual property status
List of inventors and affiliations
Prospective users or potential partners
Not complete? Apply anyway — the team will help you fill the gaps during the joint diagnostic session. If IP protection, TRL advancement, or certification is still outstanding, we first forward your application to the Directorate of Innovation and Intellectual Property as the upstream stage.

When Should You Contact DHK-STP?

Before publication

So that intellectual property protection options remain open.

When the prototype works

When laboratory results are consistent and ready for user testing.

When industry shows interest

Before signing anything, so the position of the inventor and the university is protected.

When you need production facilities

When the research needs to scale up at the pilot plant or teaching factory.

The Inventor Journey

Eight steps, accompanied by the same officer throughout
01
Complete the invention profile

Submit the invention summary, IP status, TRL, and initial evidence. If IP protection or testing is incomplete, the application is first forwarded to the Directorate of Innovation and Intellectual Property.

02
Intake & portfolio fit (Gate 0–1)

Verification of the handover package, then assessment of the problem, value proposition, and market potential. Decision: prioritise, hold, or stop.

03
Joint commercial diagnostic

A joint session with the inventor to map technology, production, market, and risk readiness, producing a Joint Development Plan.

04
Pathway decision

Determining the licensing, spin-off, joint venture, production cooperation, or sale pathway.

05
Product & business development

Product development, quality standards, business model, and delivery team.

06
Commercial readiness

Limited market testing, production readiness, and preparation of commercial documents.

07
Deal making

Negotiation, drafting of agreements, and legal support through to signing.

08
Scale-up & impact

Expansion of production and market, royalty reporting, and impact measurement.

Commercialisation Pathways

The pathway is agreed jointly at the fourth step, taking account of technology readiness, the inventor's preference, and market structure.

Licensing

The technology is licensed to industry; the inventor stays focused on research and receives royalties.

Spin-off

Establishing a new company with a business team, supported by incubation and STP facilities.

Joint Venture

A joint enterprise with an industry partner bringing production capacity and market access.

Research Cooperation

Partner-funded co-development to close technology gaps before a transaction.

Inventor Rights and Roles

The inventor's name remains attached to the intellectual property documents.
Royalty sharing follows university regulations and is explained before any agreement.
The inventor is involved in product development and knowledge transfer.
The inventor may choose not to be involved in business operations.
