Cutting feed costs through local fermentation

The journey of Inokulan Unggul from microbial isolation to demonstration plots with farmer groups.

High-fiber local feedstock is cheap but hard for livestock to digest. Isolating microbes from the local environment became the starting point for raising digestibility.

Once the microbial consortium was selected, the work shifted to drying and packaging so the product stores stably and is easy for farmers to use without special equipment.

A demo plot with a farmer group was used to test the fermentation protocol under real farm conditions, while also gathering feedback on pricing and ease of use.

KEY POINTS
Cheap local feedstock needs treatment to become digestible
Storage stability determines distribution feasibility
Demo plot tests the protocol under real farm conditions
